Laxmi Janardhana Swami Temple

Overview


Laxmi Janardhana Swami Temple is located in Palya village of Aloor taluk, about 20 kms from Hassan in Karnataka. People of all religions lived in harmony during the Palegaar reign. There is a belief that the ‘Laxmi Janardhana’ idol came into existence during Palegaar rule and this temple was probably built by them.


About The Temple


Laxmi Janardhana Swami Temple

Laxmi Janardhana Swami Temple was constructed in its present form by the Chalukya's around the 14th century. This temple is also known as ‘Dakshin Gaya’. The temple roof is of the Chalukyan style. Laxmi Janardhana Swami Temple is ancient with several inscriptions that have yet to be deciphered. There are two small water streams on both sides of the temple, namely ‘Shanka Theerth’ and ‘Chakra Theerth’. The temple complex also has other temples around the main temple. These are: Anjaneya Swami Temple, Laxmi Devi Temple and Venugopal Swami Temple.


About The Deity


The temple enshrines Laxmi Janardhana Swami’s idol which is made out of single black stone carving, four and a half ft high. The idol resembles Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.


Festival


The car festival is held during April/May each year.

There is a local belief about Laxmi Janardhana Swami Temple, that childless couples will be blessed with children if they offer prayers at this temple.
