Overview
Shri Ganapati Temple is an old temple situated at Mallapur in Uttara Kannada District in Karnataka, devoted to Lord Shiva by the King of Vijayanaga. Later, the idol of Ganesha was brought from the Mallapur village to Kumta and mounted at Kumta. Hence on, it is known as Uppina Ganpati Temple or Vinayakar Temple. The main hall and arch were built in 1949.

Kumta is linked to Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Cochin, Mangalore, and other important places through the Konkan Railway. The journey between Mangalore & Kumta takes not more than 4 hours. Devotees from Chennai can enter via Mangalore. Devotees from Bangalore and Hyderabad should get off at Hubli and proceed by road to Kumta. The road between Hubli & Kumta, is one of the best in Karnataka and passes through thick jungle.

Overnight deluxe bus services are available from Bangalore. Buses also ply between Madgaon/Karwar/Mangalore and Kumta at regular intervals.
