Legend and Stories

There are many legends associated with Amaranarayana Swami Temple. It is believed that Indra, was engaged in a battle with a demon, Vruthasura. Indra killed the demon and emerged victorious. The significance of the Krutayuga is that no gate-keepers have been installed at the entrance of the temple, which is usually the case.

History of the Temple

It is believed that the emperor of Hoysala Dynasty Vishnuvardhan, installed the idol of Lord Amaranayana during the period 1115-1141 A.D. When he relinquished Jainism and embraced Vaishnavism under the influence of Ramanujacharya, he was given the name Vishnuvardhan.
