Overview
Nagarukavu Temple, Pujappura in Thiruvananthapuram is one of the most worshipped temples since it stands among one of the first of its kind.
About The Temple
It has a history of over two and a half centuries. The temple was once covered with dense forest and was an altar. The temple continues to be more and more divine by the holy powers. The presiding deities are those of ‘Nagaraja’, ‘Nagaramma’ and ‘Nagakanya’. 'Nagaraja' is Lord Shiva personified as Sree Vasuki. The temple worships Lord Shiva most importantly as the deities continue to bless the devotees with loving children, fortune and success.
Poojas and Festivals
Aayilyam (A Monthly Celebration)
On the day of Ayilyam every year the birth of Lord is celebrated by doing 'Abhishek' with milk, coconut water, rose water, oil and 'nagaroottu' (feeding Nagaraj). The day begins with pooja from 5:30 a.m. and continues till 12:00 p.m. and then begins from 5:30 p.m. and goes on till the 'Athaza Pooja'. Devotees contribute to the 'abhishek' in advance and submit their name and stars before the lord for blessings. There are facilities for the Abhishek until 9:30 a.m. brought by the devotees.
Nagapanchami Pooja
The Naga deities are the embodiment of Rahu as goes by the belief and Suklapaksha Panchami of 'Karkadaka' month is more suited to Naga worship and Abhishek with milk, honey, ghee, tender coconut, gingelly oil, turmeric powder, panchamrutham is carried out. The devotees carry out the mavilakku garlanding of Paruthimala and Abhishek to get rid of the influence of Rahu dosha or Sarpadosha. Blessings of Nagaraja are enjoyed by devotees.
Mandala pooja
Lord Sree Ayyappa also known as Sabarimala SreeDharma Sastha is worshipped for 41 days starting from the 1st of Vrishika and is called the Mandala period for his kind and compassionate nature and his blessings are believed to bring man closer to divinity. During the Mandala Pooja the ceremonies include Bhajans, Special Pooja, illumined decorations, kettunira.
Addyathma Ramayan
During the month of Karkadaka every year the Addhyatma Ramayana (by Sree Thunjathu Ramanujan Ezhuthachan) is recited with whole hearted dedication. Lord Vishnu's Avatar Lord Sree Rama resides the hearts of people and is believed to get them through Sansara Sagara (Sea of Physical life). His blessings also purify the soul and remove the evil of overthinking.
