The Vedapureeswarar Temple is located in Cheyyar and is dedicated to God Vedapureeswarar. It is believed that the God taught vedas to the sages and gods here. Thus the place was named Othur (Othu meaning vedas). It was later called as Thiruvothur. The palm trees in this place are said to have become fertile after Thirugnanasambandar sang hymns. The devotees who eat the fruits from these trees are said to be cured of infertility and diseases. The presiding deity of this temple is God Vedapureeswarar. The temple is well known for its unique sculptures and the 1, 000 pillared hall.
