Overview


Varasiddhi Vinayakar Temple also known as Varasiddhi Vallabha Mahaganapati Temple, it is at Besant Nagar, Chennai, India. The temple is a famous Hindu temple, located near the beach at Besant Nagar. It is dedicated to the Hindu, elephant god Ganesha or Vinayaka.


About The Temple


The Kumbabhishekam of the temple was held in April, 1979 after its expansion. Prior to this, the idol of the Lord was worshipped in another site situated opposite the present premises inside the CPWD Quarters compound. The temple partakes in several social welfare activities such as providing food for the poor and also frequently organizing poojas.

The temple developed rapidly with the construction of an auditorium at the back of the praharam located on the eastern side. Musical programs are conducted by the temple administration in the auditorium during the festivals like Vinayaka Chathurthi. The auditorium is also rented out to other organizations for musical and cultural programs.


About The Deity


The Varasiddhi Vallabha Mahaganapati Temple is devoted to Sri Ganesha as Varasiddhi Vallabha Mahaganapati. Ganapati Homam is done here on regular basis. The sanctum sanctorum of the temple houses the idol of Valampuri Varasiddhi Vinayakar along with his consort Siddhi on his left side. Another miniature idol of Ganesha that was originally worshiped is installed above the present main idol.

Speical Poojas


Several special poojas are organized by the Varasiddhi Vinayaka Temple attracting steams of pilgrims residing in the locality. Special days are also ascribed for specific poojas such as the Raghu Kala Pooja for Ambal are conducted on Tuesdays; Sahasvaranamam held on Fridays and Saturdays are reserved for special archana to navagrahas. Besides these, Sathyanarayana Pooja is conducted on full moon days, pooja is organised at dakshinamurthi sannathi on pradosham days and special offerings are given at balasubramanya sannathi on krithigai days.

Meaning -Oh elephant-faced Lord, who is served by all the Ganas, who consumes the essence of Kapitta and Jamboophala, His favourite fruits, who is Uma's son, who destroys the gloom of His devotees, who handles hurdles, we worship your lotus feet.

Tatpurushaaya Vidmahe Vakratundaaya Dheemahe Tanno Danthihi Prachodayaat

Meaning -We meditate on the great power, we call upon the single tusked Ganesh, who grants wishes.
