The Trilokanatheswarar Temple is located in Melattur and is dedicated to God Trilokanatheswarar. It is believed that this Shiva Lingam in this temple originated during Pralaya kalam (the great floods). During Pralayam, a stone were rolled for a long distance and changed into a Lingam. Finally, the Lingam stood straight and stuck to this place, hence this place called as Melatur (Mela means high plain). Once during the Naicker period, a king named Achuthappa Naicker was suffering under a curse which many intellectuals couldn't cure. One night, God Shiva appeared in his dream and told him to search for a Lingam in Melatur and construct a temple as a remedy. The next morning, he acted quickly and found this Linga surrounded by dense forest. He ordered that a temple be built and he also constructed a planned village with Kattumana agraharam (well - arranged street), named it Unnathapuri and donated this village to five hundred Brahmins to do Shiva pooja for six times in a day regularly.
