Thirunankovil

The Thirunankovil Temple is located in Keezha Thiruvenkatanathapuram and is dedicated to God Shri Venkatachalapathy. Located near Tirunelveli the temple is half a kilometer away from the famous "Then Thirupathi Shri Venkataachalapathy temple". The presence of abundant red soil in and around the temple gave this place the name "Senkani", where "Sen" meaning "red" and "kani" means "land" in Tamil. The name later changed to "Sangani". Keezha Thiruvenkatanathapuram is a located approximately 10 kms from Tirunelveli, a district headquarter in Tamilnadu, South India. There are three different routes from Tirunelveli to reach this place. The village is located on a hillock and the temple is located at an elevated plane surface. It is said that once in the fourteenth century a miracle occurred. A king who ruled Tirunelveli at that time came to the temple to get blessings from the God. But the priest was unavailable due to illness. At that time the God disguised himself as the priest and performed the pooja, saving the priest from the king's punishment. Hence the God is often called "Vaazha Veikum Perumal" (the one who saves). All the devotees who pray to the God wholeheartedly will be blessed by him. The God here is called "Thenn Kanchi" (thenn meaning south and kanchi is the name of a place). It is believed that being blessed by the God here is equivalent to blessing from the God in Kancipuram. Further, as the Dhana Regai (prosperity line) runs on the right hand of the God, it is believed that if a devotee places a coin on the hand of the God, it will multiply. Hence, the God is called Dhana Regai Perumal.
