Bhava Ausadhisvara Temple

The temple is Goddess Brahannayaki temple. It is situated within the town. It is popularly known by various other names such as Brahmapuri, Vilvaranyam, Navatheerthapuram, Navagrahapuram and Jallikaranyam. “Tharu” is a Tamil word whose Sanskrit meaning is “Vriksha”. Vilwam is sthala Vriksha of this temple known as Thiruththaruppoondi. The goddess idol is east facing while the temple is west facing. At the entrance it is decorated with a five-tier Raja Gopuram. There is an east facing shrine for Theertha Vidanga Thyagaraja on the southern side of the Sanctum called Mangalya Theertham,while on its eastern bank is a temple for Vedharanyeswara where Sage Agasthya worshipped. An ardent devotee Jallikai bathed in this Mangalya Theertham and got her husband Virupaksha back who died after killing a Brahmin boy Dharma Vratha. A 25 day grand annual festival is conducted here. Resembling the Thiruvarur Temple, an ancient instrument “Panchamuka vadyam”, is present in this temple as well. At the front of the temple, Brahma is so holy that he has 16 Ghats on all four sides. Thus, a total of 64, which is considered the abode of all holy Theerthams. Lord Vilvavanesa was worshipped by several sages and gods. They include Nava Rishis (Vamadeva,Agasthya, Kasyapa, Baradhwaja,Athri, Gowthama Jamadhhagni, Viswamithra, Vasishta). A few merchants like Dhanarakshaka, Chandraguptha, Kamalanayana and Kruthagya. The list also includes Indra, Navagraha, Vishnu, Harichandra, Musukundha, Katwangatha, Dilipa,Kalmashapadha, Lava, Yayathi, Kaartha Veerya, Krishna Sarma, Somasarma, Vajra Sarma, Sukesa Sarma, Gnana Sarma. Chanrda Choodamani Thandava was performed by Lord Nataraja for the Nava Rishis. The Lord blessed salvation for Karunakara, Kamalanabha, Pandya King Vasumathi,Vaivegi (a thief) and others.
