- Tell us about this temple
The temple faces west. The enshrining deity is a broken Lingam within a circular Yonipitha in the centre of the sanctum, which is 1.07 metres below the present ground level. As per local tradition, the presiding deity is called Purvesvara as the deity is situated facing east of the Lingaraj temple. The other temples in the other three directions are Uttartesvara to the north, Barunesvara to the south and Paschimesvara to the west. The temple is now maintained by the Purvesvara Temple Development Association. It is believed that the temple was built in 13th century AD. Not much can be ascertained regarding the sanctum of the temple due to the absence of the superstructure. The jagamohana though confirms to the pidha style of building. This proves that the temple was built during mature phase of temple building in Orissa.
