About The Temple


The directing god of the temple is Ayyanar named as Neer Katha Ayyanar. On the left of Ayyanar are Pushkala and Poorna on the privilege. Legend and Stories


Two men, Chinna Ottakaran and Peria Ottakaran came to Rajapalayam for selecting wood for the banner post of Madurai Meenakshi Amman. They found that a few trees under the control of Ayyanar reasonable for their motivation and started to chop out them. At the same time, they discovered blood from the tree and were fear struck. They begged Ayyanar of their guiltlessness and said that they cut out the tree just to make the banner post for Meenakshi Temple. Smooth Ayyanar acquitted them and requesting that they return back in the wake of conveying the wood and be His security.

Mother Meenakshi prevented them from backpedaling. Exasperated Ayyanar made all individuals debilitated. Mother called the two Ottakarans and permitted them to backpedal to Ayyanar and guaranteed that she would come and meet them once in a year with three laurels. Chinna Ottakaran and Peria Ottakaran are the securities even today for Ayyanar.


History of the Temple


Despite the fact that Ayyanar worship is in vogue in Tamilnadu from days of yore, building temples for Him started from the tenth century by Chola King Rajaraja I, trailed by other Ayyanar Temples in different parts of the state. Rajapalayam Neer Katha Ayyanar temple additionally appeared amid this period as it were.

Meaning -According to this sloka, the entire world doesn't recognize the eternal God beyond them, because they are consumed by the elements of satva, rajas and tamas (good, obssessive and dark).
