The Maraikuttanathar Temple is located in Vedaranayam and is dedicated to God Veerahatti Vinayakar. This temple is known for its sculptural brilliance. There are pillared halls, Yaalis bearing irremovable rolling pillars in their mouths, images of the zodiac signs and the 27 asterisms. The structure of the temple is similar to that of Tiruvarur temple. God Rama is said to have worshipped Veerahatti Vinayakar here. An image of Uma Maheswarar can be found behind the Shivalinga. Sage Agasthya is supposed to have obtained a vision of Shiva's wedding here. There is a separate shrine for Durga. One can also find inscriptions from the Chola, Vijayanagar and Maratha periods here. Legend has it that the four Vedas took the form of humans and stayed nearby worshipping the God here. When the Kaliyuga commenced, the Vedas left the place thereby closing the front door to the temple forever. People began to enter the temple through an opening in the side wall to worship the deity.
