Sri Vadaranyeswarar Temple (Vallalar Koil) is a God Dhakshanamoorhty Temple located at Nagapattinam district, Mayiladuthurai. God Dakshanamoorthy is also known as Metha Dhakshanamoorthy. During the time of Gurupeyarchi special poojas are offered. Most of the time, symbol of Nandhi is before the idol of Shiva in every God Shiva's Temple. Here is a Nandhi in a polite form before Lord Dakshinamurthy, which is very rare. Nandhi, the bull vehicle of God Shiva, sung in praise of God Dhakshanamoorthy eight verses. Devotees are recommended to chant the verses to get rid off arrogant qualities and to attain knowledge. Also it used as prayer offered to God. As per Sthala Purana, Planet Jupiter worshipped God Dakshinamurthy here to acquire the virtue of granting boons to people who adore him. The spot is viewed as sacred for Guru or planet Jupiter's worship.The place within the Cauvery bank where Nandhi bathed is popularly known as Nandhi theertham. There is a temple for Nandhi in middle of the stream. It is said that those who bath in Nandhi Theertham get the advantage of snana-bathing in sacred waterways as Ganga, Yamuna, Saraswathi, Narmada and Tambiraparani. The shower also enables the devotees of the advantage of perusing the 18 puranas. On the north side of the temple is the Gnana Pushkarini Theertha. People experiencing the negative impact of Jupiter, bath in this theertha. Goddess Chamundi, one of the Saptha Madhas worshipped God Shiva in this temple seeking relief from the dosha of killing demon Mahishasura
