Naganathar Temple

Sri Naganathar temple is a Lord Naganathar temple located in Kilperumpallam,Tamil Nadu.Once lord Nagalinga peruman had appeared as a snake under a Marutha tree and blessed the devotees. Since then, the devotees started bringing eggs as the offering to lord Nagalinga here. Earlier there was an ant hill called Puttru which is now protected with grill fence. The sand from that ‘Puttru’ called puthadi mann, meaning sand from the ant hill was taken by devotees and used as medicine by taking it with water. The sand is also applied as paste on the body parts affected by ‘poisonous insect bites, eczema and several other types of skin diseases’. This west facing shrine is just behind the shrine of the presiding deity. The vasukhi theertham is positioned just opposite of the shrine of lord Naganathar in the west direction. Proceeding through numerous yugas, many people including heavenly beings and sages had taken bath in this theertha and curse released. It has 25 further names . Lord Naganathar is worshipped by Mohammedans. Once upon a time, a Mohammedan named Mulla Sahib lived while India had been under the Moguls control. Once he along with his dumb daughter chanced to come to this temple. As he stood in front of the shrine of lord Naganathar, his daughter opened her mouth and said “Allah Nainar Andavar”. These were the very first words from her mouth.
