Shantaleswara Temple

Shantaleswara Temple with shrines, placed next to each other and faced towards east, dedicated to Hoysaleswara and Shantaleswara, constructed on a high platform, is made out of soft Soapstone, also known as potstone. The remarkable structure of this temple, with a Shivlingam in the sanctorum, has been commended as a perfect prototype of Hindu style of architecture. Its architecture is considered as the pinnacle of Indian architecture. In the exteriors, the structure seems to be very complex while the interiors are really simple constructions. The exterior walls of the temple have an impressive range of sculptures made out of stones. A museum with ancient sculpture and the gold coins from that time attract the visitors. The stature of mortals and immortals are superior and are skillfully placed, in shining splendid black stone.
