Padhaieshwarar Temple

Overview

Sri Padaleswarar temple is located in the city of Aridwaramangalam, Tiruvarur, Tamil Nadu and is about 1000-2000 years old. The temple's Lord is lauded in Thevaram songs of Saint Tirugnana Sambandar. This is the 99th Shiva sanctuaries on the southern bank of Cauvery commended in Saivite sacred texts. Vaikasi Visakam in May-June; Margazhi Tiruvadhirai in December-January and all Lord Shiva related celebrations are fantastically celebrated in the temple.

About the Temple

Presiding deity of the temple is a swayambumurthy.  Three tier Rajagopuram is facing east.  There are shrines for Lords Vinayaka, Nataraja with sages Patanjali and Vyakrapada, Kasi Viswanatha, Bhairava, Lingodhbava, Sani Baghwan (Saturn), Sun, Moon. Saint Sambandar and Sapthamadhas.

About the Deity

The pit burrowed by Lord Vishnu to discover the feet of Lord Shiva still exists in the sanctum sanctorum, secured by a stone. As indicated by one story, Lord Shiva broke the horn of a swine and wore it in His mid-section. This is one of the Pancha Aranya (five wildernesses) places of worship of Lord Shiva. Tirukarugavur is the Ushat Kala or small hours, Avalivanallur Kalasandhi or morning, Haridwara Mangalam is the Uchikala or early afternoon, Alangudi is Sayaratchai or sundown and Haridwaramangalam is the Arthajama or night. It is the staunch conviction of the aficionados that venerating these sanctuaries all the while would compensate the enthusiast of his love in Haridwar in north. Master Padala Easwara assuages His devotees from obligation loads. As Mother Alankaravalli has the qualities of Mother Durga, there is no different place of worship for Mother Durga. Mother assuages Her enthusiasts from every single malevolence perspective. The very appearance of Mother confronting east is lauded as Kalyanakolam or Wedding Form. Master Dakshinamurthi has an exceptional essentialness in the temple. The temple's sanctification was commended in 2006 following 410 years. The hugest element of the temple is the seven Vinayakas gracing the devotees.

Legend/Story

A challenge emerged between Lord Brahma and Vishnu to build up their predominance over the other. It was concurred that the one discovering first the feet and/or head of Lord Shiva would be the victor. Brahma rode on His Swan vahan towards the Lord's leader Shiva yet proved unable. By the way, the Thazhampoo (a bloom) was tumbling down from the head of Lord Shiva. Ruler Brahma requested that the blossom say that He discovered and adored the head of Shiva. The bloom excessively concurred, making it impossible to the false arrangement. Ruler Shiva censured the bogus arrangement of both and excluded Thazhampoo for utilization in Puajas and that there would be no temple on Earth for Brahma. Master Vishnu took the type of a swine, burrowed the earth to achieve the feet of Shiva yet fizzled. Master Vishnu sincerely conceded His annihilation. Accordingly the spot was named Hari - Vishnu, dwara-production pit, Mangalam-favorable spot – Haridwaramangala.

Festivals

Vaikasi Visakam in May-June; Margazhi Tiruvadhirai in December-January and all Lord Shiva related festivals are grandly celebrated in the temple.

Significance

Lord Shiva in the temple is a swayambumurthy. Those facing delays in marriage and seeking child boon pray to Mother Alankaravalli for desired results. Devotees perform abishek to Lord and Mother offering vastras.
