Overview
Upamaka Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple is situated at Upamaka Agraharam, in the Visakhapatnam district of Andhra Pradesh. The temple is primarily dedicated to Lord Vishnu.
About The Temple
Garudadri Hill is the abode of Lord Venkateshwara which appears in the shape of "GARUDA" (eagle) to the common eyes. The hill top has a temple dedicated to Lord Venkateshwara. The deity is seen sitting over a Horse, along with his consort goddess Lakshmi Devi. The sanctum sanctorum of this temple faces the north. At the bottom of this hill, is a temple dedicated to Lord Venugopala Swamy which according to the Hindu Mythology was consecrated by sage Narada. Sri Venugopala Swamy is known as the pervader of this holy place.

Lord Vishnu is the presiding of this temple who graces here as Sri Venkateswara Swamy and is considered a Swamyambhu (self formed, not man-made) deva.
Legend and Stories
According to legends, great sages and saints ardently prayed for liberation, at the end of Dwapara Yuga. Garuda too requested Lord Krishna to rest him on his head forever. It is believed that the Lord settled on this Garuda Hills at Upamaka village, yielding to Garuda’s request.
A temple was later constructed by Sri Krishna Bhupaludu, the king of Kandregula region, in the East Godavari district of Andra Pradesh around the 6th century AD. A Raamasthoopam was installed on 4th May 1964 by Sri Thridandi Sreemannarayana Ramanuja Pedda Jiyar Swamy which is considered one among the 108 revered Ramasthoopas in India.

Brahmostavams, Dhanurmasotsavams, Adyayana Utsavams are annually celebrated in this hill temple. Processions like Punyakoti Vahanam, Ponna Vahanam, Garuda Vahanam, Sapparamu, Rajadi Raja Vahanam, Hamsa Vahanm, Ashwa Vahanam, Gaja Vahanam, Pedda Pallaki, Chinna Pallkhi Vahanam are the various ceremonies organised as part of these Utsavas..
