Tahakari Jagdamba Temple

Overview


The Jagdamba Temple is situated at Tahakari village. This temple is similar in style to the Khajuraho temples. The main deity of Jagadmba is made up of wood. It is one of the most famous temple in the Ahmednagar District of Maharashtra. The Temple is situated on the bank of river Aadhala.


About The Temple


The Temple has been constructed by Yadava’s. It is built using special system known as Hemadpanthi. The entire temple is made with stones. It has seventy-two pillars and five pinnacle and special types of sculptural carvings on the exterior as well interior of the temple.

Inside the temple we get to see an eye- pleasing idol seated on Tiger which has been carved in wood. One of the important peculiarities of this Goddess is that it has eighteen hands which hold various types of weapons. The panorama of “Mahishasrmardiani” is displayed here. In addition to that in this temple, idol of Mahalaxmi is facing toward West and Bhadrakali facing toward East.


Legend and Stories


In the epic Ramayan lord Rama on the way to search Sita, he reached at Tahakari with distressed mind and he started asking to trees and flowers about Sita. Lord Shankar and Parvati were watching all this things from the sky. Parvati declined to accept that, the lord Rama is AVATAR of lord Vishnu, as he was crying for his wife, which a god would never done. But Lord Shiva told her firmly, “Rama is AVATAR of Visnu” but she did not convinced. She has decided to take a test of Lord Rama. She went in front of Shree Ram in appearance of Sita, but Rama immediately realizes that she is not Sita and he asked her. “Oh mother, how you come on the earth ?” By hearing this, she was ashamed. Seeing this, Lord Shiva starting laughing. So that Parvati disappeared from this place and came back in the form of “JAGDAMBA MATA”


Festivals


The festival of Jagdamba Mata organized by local people can be seen two times in a year: 1) Chaitra Pournima- two days Yatra festival, on this occasion many people from nearby villages, district and state came to take Darshan of Jagdamba. 2) Navratri- 9 nights festival of Jagdamba Mata, on this occasion continuous worship of Goddess Jagdamba performed by local people.
