Kalaram Mandir

Overview


The Kalaram Temple is an old Hindu temple committed to Rama in the Panchavati zone of Nashik city in Maharashtra, India. It is presumably the most essential Hindu holy spot in the city. Kalaram Mandir, one of the significant attractions of the Nashik, is arranged in the Panchavati territory of the city. It is the greatest and also the most straightforward among every one of the temples arranged here and goes back to the year 1790, when it was built by Sardar Odhekar of Peshwa.


About The Temple


The whole temple has been worked of delightful dark stone and the temple is nearly 70 feet high. The passageway to this temple is on the east side and that too by means of an angled vaulted entryway. The "Kalash" inside the temple is made of immaculate gold which weighs around 32 tons. The dark stones used to assemble the temple were brought from zones of Ramshej which were removed from slopes of Ramshej. Temple has a copper pinnacle that is absolutely gold plated. The pinnacle looks bewitching throughout the day and night too.

Other than the symbol of Lord Rama, are those of Sita Mata and Lord Lakshmana, they dark in colour and embellished with decorations. The temple has been developed totally out of dark stones and four passageway entryways, one confronting East, West, South and North. The summit of the Kalaram Mandir is comprised of 32 tons of gold. Prior, Harijans were not permitted inside the temple. It was just in the year 1930, after the Satyagraha of Dr. Ambedkar, that Harijans were permitted to enter its premises.

Encompassing the working of the Kalaram Mandir is a walled encased, which involves 96 columns. The fenced in area is entered from the eastern side, through a curved entryway. The stones utilized as a part of the development of the temple were brought from Ramshej. 23 lakh rupees and endeavors of 2000 laborers went into the development of the temple, which took roughly 12 years. Kalaram Temple is around 70 feet high and has a gold-plated top. Arranged close to the temple sanctorum is Sita gumpha (cave).

Legend and Stories


The temple was inherent 1788 by Sardar Rangarao Odhekar. As indicated by neighborhood legends, it is said that Sardar Rangarao Odhekar once had a fantasy according to which he saw a statue of Lord Rama in dark shading and he saw that the statue was in River Godavari. When Sardar Rangarao Odhekar looked into the stream, he really found the icon and where statue was found was named 'Ramkund'. At that point this temple was worked by Odhekar.

There are great Utsavs and processions on festivals like Dasara, Ramnavami and Chaitra Padwa in this temple. People from not only Hindu religion but also from other religions take part in these festivals with dedication and devotion. The floral decoration is worth watching during the festivals here.

Mumbai International Airport serves as the nearest airport to Nashik. Nashik has its own railway station and numerous trains run between Nashik and Mumbai everyday at frequent gaps. Nashik can be reached by road from Mumbai via NH 3.
