Kachuru Nageshwara temple is located at Barkur in Udupi district of Karnataka. It is about 20 kms from Udupi. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Nageshwara temple was built by Bhujabalakavi Aalupendra Raya, a saamantha (chieftain) of King Vishnuvardhana of Hoysala empire. This temple was set on fire by the Portuguese when they invaded Barkur in 1713. It was further destroyed when Hyder Ali of Mysore attacked in 1763. This ancient temple was restored recently.
