Kote Anjaneya Swamy Temple

Overview


The Kote Anjaneya temple is a shrine dedicated to Lord Hanuman. The temple is located at Tiptur, in the Tumkur district of Karnataka, India. This popular temple houses a unique 75 feet tall Hanuman statue at its entrance. This statue was inaugurated in May 2005.

The idol of Lord Anjaneya in this temple is counted as one among the many Hanuman idols consecrated by Sri Vyasaraja. Sri Vyasaraja is regarded as the most revered Rajaguru of the historical Vijayanagar Empire. He is also believed to be the guru (teacher) of the renowned poets and philosophers Kanakadasa and Purandaradasa. About five hundred years ago, Sri Vyasaraja is said to have consecrated around 732 idols of Lord Hanuman throughout India. This temple is one among the many Hanuman temples established by Sri Vyasaraja in the much famous Vijayanagara Empire. The temple was renovated in the later centuries but this idol of Lord Hanuman still stands with the same divinity and power, like earlier. The temple is located in the heart of the town Tiptur and is usually found crowded on Saturdays.

Meaning -We salute Lanka's horror, Anjana's brave son, who ended Sita's sorrows, the ruler of monkeys and the one who killed Aksha, Ravana's son.
