Overview
Chandranellur Bhagavathi Temple lies at Kalakattu Illam close to Purakkunnu in Kannur District. It is around 25 km from Payyanur. The story behind the sanctuary tells that a Namboothiri from Kalakattu Illam achieved the place known as Manathana. Favored by Goddess Kali, he got a Soolam (a kind of bar), Kannadi (Mirror) and Kiridam (Crown) as present. The crown was kept at the Illam, which turned into Chandranellur Bhagavati. alliyottu Palottukavu Aadaam Kovval, Karippal Nagam, Vettakkorumakan Kshethram and Puliroopa Kali Temple are the significant spots of reverence close-by.
