Overview

About The Temple
An example of the Rekha style of architecture can be seen in the temple of Kotithirteshwara. It faces west and is built of light fine grained sandstone. The temple conforms to the Rekha style and has a curvilinear superstructure. In this kind of structure the curvilinear pilasters rise from the base (plinth) to the bottom of Mastaka or the foot of the temple. The temple originally had a rectangular structure which is now missing.
The Unique Architectural Features of the Temple Are
It is a pancharatha type or a five chariot temple. The vimana (roof tower) is square on plan over a rectangular platform. The outer wall is plain, due to renovation. The raha paga is decorated with two notable features in the outer layers of the temple that were designed to facilitate air circulation within the inner confines.
The temple houses a Shiva lingam within a circular yonipitha (base) within its sanctum. The daily ablutions are being offered to the deity. This temple is one among the panchatirtha of Bhubaneswar.
