There is a five level raja gopuram. Close to the Kodimaram (Dgwjastambam), there is a delightful emerald (maragada) peacock. He holds a jabamlai (rosary) in his upper right hand and a kamandalam in his upper left hand like Brahma. On the South, there is a sannadhi for Annamalaiar and Unnamulai Amman (emerald symbols). There is additionally a symbol of Muruga with Valli. About the Deity

Legend and Stories
History of the temple has that Lava and Kusa, the children of Rama lived in this spot. Lord Rama was performing Ashwamedha yagna to prove his superiority over the neighboring kingdoms. “Ashwa” meaning horse was released and made to run across various kingdoms, nd who so ever imprisoned the horse had to fight Lord Rama. Once when the horse did not return, Lord Rama sent his brothers initially to go in search of it and recover it. The horse was actually caught by Lava and Kucha. When Baratha, Shatrugna and Lakshamana failed to return, Lord Rama himself went in search of the horse to retrive it. On this occasion he is said to have met Lava and Kusha. They had battled with Rama himself without realizing that he was their father. As the youthful youngsters pursued a war here, the spot was called as Siruvar Por Puri. (Siruvar implies kids, Por Puri means pursuing a war, in Thamizh). This spot is presently called as Chinnambedu, which initially was Siruvar Ambu Edu (youngsters who took their bolts for the battle).

Many years back there lived a woman called Murugammai in this town. She had been an exceptionally fervent devotee of God Muruga at Siruvapuri. She generally used to sing his name and pray for a considerable length of time. Her husband was totally against her devotion to the Lord and asked her to stop it. She never listened to him and this infuriated her husband who one day cut her arms off out of displeasure. Murugammai wept for help with God Muruga.
