Overview
Thirunethranathar temple situated in a place called thirupalli mukkodal in thiruvarur district of Tamil Nadu.This temple is said to be built more than 1000 years ago. One has to travel pallivaramangalam from thiruvaur which is 4 kilometres away and from there one has to travel through auto to reach this temple. The Lord Shiva here is called the Mukkan Nathar aka Thrinethra Swami. The Goddess here is called Anjanaatchi aka Mymevukanni. This temple is considered as the Triveni Sangamam of South. Now, what’s this Triveni Sangamam. It’s the joining point of the 3 holy rivers – The Ganges, Yamuna and the mystical Sarawathi. Master of the temple is lauded in the psalms of Saint Tirunavukkarasar. About the Temple
There are sculptures of the presiding deity, Lord Sri Rama, Jatayu, Kanni Vinayaka and Subramanya at the top side of the front entrance.
Legend and Stories
Jatayu, a life-changing character in epic Ramayana who laid his life in the administration of Lord Sri Rama performed repentance on Lord Shiva here looking for His beauty to help him at the same time bathe in Kasi (now Varanasi) and Rameswaram and achieve salvation. Satisfied with his repentance and his honorable point, Lord showed up before him and said that he would be battling with Ravana to save Mother Sita from his kidnapping endeavor when his wings would be cut off by Ravana. When he would be in intense torment, Sri Rama will come there and that he would be giving the data about the bearing Sita was taken by Ravana. Jatayu would fall at His feet and accomplish salvation.
