Ramanjaneya Temple

Overview

The Ramanjaneyar Temple is a Hindu shrine situated at Tambaram Sanatorium, a locality in the suburbs of Chennai, Tamil Nadu. This temple is primarily dedicated to Lord Vishnu.

About The Temple

The main shrine houses a tall vigraha(Idol) of Lord Sri Ram who graces here along with his brother Lakshman and his consort Devi Sita. A small idol of Hanuman is also found near kneeling toward the Lord praying. There is also a separate shrine for Sri Anjaneya who is known here as Sri Ramaanjaneya. Sri Garuda is found facing the Lord in the main shrine. In most temples, Sri Hanuman is found facing towards the main shrines of Rama. This temple houses separate tower, bali peetha and a flag staff. Two other sub-shrines are found in the precinct (prakara) dedicated to the Goddesses Maha Lakshmi and Andal respectively which is a unique feature. Since usually Devi Lakshmi and Andal are found only in Lord Vishnu’s temples and in temples dedicated to Vishnu's incarnation (Lord Rama here). Sri Yoga Narasimhar graces from a separate shrine holding a discus in one hand, with the Chakrathalwar (Sudarshan) and Vishwaksena on the other three. Lord Hanuman’s shrine here holds great prominence in this temple, since this deity was the very first to be consecrated in this temple.
