ATTAHASA SHAKTI PEETH MAA PHULLARA OR FULLARA
Overview
Attahas Shakti Peetha is one of the most famous Shakti Peetha, where it is believed that the “Lower Lip” of Maa Sati fell and the idols are Devi Maa as Phullara or Fullara (Blooming) and Lord Shiva as Vishwesh (Lord of the universe) Bhairav. It is located in Labhpur, West Bengal,India.
About The Temple
According to mythology, when Mahadeva (Lord Shiva) danced furiously carrying Goddess Sati’s dead body, Of the cut pieces, the lip fell at Fullara or Phullara. This is a very ancient temple. There are various gods and goddess carved on the walls and pillars of the temple along with some shlokas. There is a big pond beside the temple. According to legends, Hanuman collected 108 blue lotuses from the pond when Sri Ramachandra required them for the worship of Goddess Durga.
About The deity
Here Devi Sati is worshipped as Phullara or Fullara meaning Flowering or Blooming and Lord Shiva is worshipped as Vishwesh (Lord of the universe). The deities’ idols are made of stone.. It is so large that the lower lip of the Goddess is about 15 to 18 feet wide.
Legend and Stories
According to the history, Daksha the father of Goddess Sati insulted Lord Shiva and Goddess Sati. He did not invite them to Daksha Yagna. Though Lord Shiva was unwilling to send Goddess Sati to Daksha Yagna, Sati adamantly went there, for it was her father who had arranged for the Yagna. Daksha instead of welcoming his daughter, Sati; insulted her and Lord Shiva. Hurt and angry Goddess Sati plunged into the sacred fire of Yagna and sacrificed herself. When Lord shiva got to know this, he was furious and started doing Bhairava Nratya to destroy the world.. To stop this, lord Vishnu cut the body of Sati with his Chakra. The body parts are placed in 52 different parts of the world. Those are the renowned 52 Shakti peethas. In this temple Goddess Sati’s lower lip is placed and worshiped as Phullara.
Festivals and Rituals
Devotees offer Anna Bhog to Maa Phullara. The offerings made to the Godess are usually items grown from soil.
Navaratri held in September- October ( Ashwija masa ) is celebrated very grandly.. Goddess is worshipped in different forms on all the nine days during Navaratri.. Some people do not eat anything grown below the land during Navaratri. Special ceremonies and pujas are carried out during this time.. Usually tourists visit the temple in December.
In addition, Navratri fair is held in April for nine days. During this fair, a large number of devotees visit the place.
