Overview
Lake Bindhu Sarovar is known for the incarnation of Lord Vishnu as Kapila Mahamuni on its banks, signified as the Tapo Bhoomi of Sage Kardhama Prajapathi, the place where Sri Kapilaacharya preached Saankhya philosophy (Moksha Gnana) to his Mother, and also the place where Devahuti attained salvation.
Literally “Bindhu” means a drop and “Sarovar” means a lake. It was known as a lake where tears of Lord Sri Maha Vishnu are believed to have fallen. The Bindhu Sarovar is considered as holy as the Triveni Sangam. There are three water ponds known as Gnana Vapi, Alpa river and Bindhu Sarovar.
Along the shore one finds temples of Sri Kapila Mahamuni, Sage Kardhama Prajapathi, Devahuti, where earlier their hermitages existed. Also one finds a temple of Gaya Gadhadhara here. On the opposite, one can find a temple of Lord Shiva and other Hindu Deities. Near the Moksha Peepal Tree, one finds an image of Lord Parashuram offering Pinda to his Mother.
About The Temple
Here Sage Kardhama did severe penance for 10000 divine years and had the darshan of Lord Vishnu and also it is a holy place where parents of Sage Kardhama also known as Kardhama Prajapathi and his wife Devahuti performed penance for several years.
It is a place where Sage Sri Kapilaacharya also known as Kapila Bhagavantha, a philosophical incarnation of Lord Vishnu was born to Sage Kardhama Prajapathi and had preached Divine Knowledge to his Mother Devahuti. It is also the place where Devahuti attained Salvation and the place came to be known as Siddhipada which became Siddhpur.
It is also the place where Lord Parashuram, the dynamic avathar of Lord Vishnu, performed sacred rites to his Mother. It is one of the holiest places in North Gujarat to be visited by Hindus.
About the Deity
Lord Vishnu had undertaken several incarnations out of which, Sri Kapilaacharya was one of those which was a philosophic avathar meant for the purpose of giving Divine Knowledge to his Mother. Afterwards, he left his hermitage.
The Sage Sri Kapila Maha Muni is indirectly responsible for the descending of Ganges due to a curse given by him that eventually led to the penance performed by Bhageeratha, for the descent of Ganges.
Legend and Stories
Sage Kardhama married Devahuti, daughter of Swayambhuva Manuvu and Satharoopa Devi and the sage couple had initially nine female children and Sri Kapila Mahamuni was born as the 10th child.
After the birth of Sri Kapila Mahamuni, Sage Kardhama left his hermitage. After initiation into Tatva Gnana by her son, Devahuti started practicing Saankhya Yoga and attained salvation.
Interesting Facts
Known as Mathru Gaya Kshethra, Bindhu Sarovar has got lot of religious and spiritual significance. Hindus from across the country visit this place to perform last rites to their departed mothers also the only place in India where sacred rites to a mother is exclusively performed. Lots of people visit this place during Karthika month to perform Mathru rites.

Siddhpur is on the railway map of India on the Ahmadabad – New Delhi railway line connecting major cities and towns a journey of about 3 hours from Ahmadabad.

Siddhpur is well connected by road from all important major towns and cities of Gujarat. Regular bus services are available from Ahmadabad and Mehsana to Siddhpur. One can also reach Siddhpur by taxi/cab from Ahmadabad which is about two hour journey.
