Legend

According to the legend, even today the two most eminent siddha purushas, Shree Karur Devar and Shree Sadasiva Brahmendrar worship in this temple at midnight. The Kallala tree which is standing tall in the temple complex is the abode of Vana Durga or Kali, the Goddess of forests. It is believed that nine sages are doing penance under this tree. In the ancient days, the tribes and Adivasis that lived in the forest, worshiped Goddess Kali as their main deity in this form. The supernal presence of Goddess Kali can be felt even today.
