The Natarajar Sabha, also known as the Mukti Mandapam, is where the dancing Lord Shiva bestowed Parasara Muni with the vision of His cosmic dance (Sivathandavam). So, the Sivathandavam dance of Lord Shiva is also known as Mukti Thandavam, in this temple. The water bodies in this temple are called Agni theertham and Parasara theertham and the sacred tree in the temple is called Palasa Maram.
