The Aiyappan Temple is located in Ramanathapuram and is dedicated to God Ayappa. God Ayyappan graces the sanctum sanctorum of this 500 year old temple, built at an elevation just as in Sabarimala and has 18 steps leading to it. The idol is a Panchalokamoorthy made in Kerala. The Dwarapalaka on the left shows the finger towards the God directing the devotee to have his mind set on the God. The gates of the temple are opened here in accordance to the rules followed at Sabarimala. When the temple is opened, pooja is performed to all the steps and silk vastras are offered. As soon as the pooja is over the God is smeared with sacred ash. There is a stick on his left hand and lam is lit that shows the God always in a pensive mood. When the gates are opened, the sacred ash on the God is offered as Prasad. There is a shrine for Kannimoola Ganapathy on the right of the presiding deity and a shrine for Maligaipurathu Amman on the left. There is Kaduthasami, Karuppannasamy and Karuppayee near the steps as guarding deities. There is no flag post (Kodimaram) or Balipeeta in the temple. There are two tiger vahans in front of the sanctum sanctorum.
