Legend and Stories
Sangamangai close Kancheepuram is the origin of Sakkia Nayanar conceived in the month of Margazhi (December-January) on a Pooradam star day. He was connected to Lord Shiva and his devotees with the staunch confidence that Lord Shiva alone can help a spirit to cross the sea of life. In spite of the fact that showing up in his Sakya style (Sakyas don't have a place with Saivism and had a kind of dressing not quite the same as Saivites) Lord Shiva was ever in his contemplations. He was doing Shiva Puja furtively without anyone's information. While Nayanar was out on a day, he discovered a Shiva Linga lying uncared for. He needed to clean the Linga with abishek, laurel and worship however there was nothing for the reason. Yet Nayanar took a little stone considering it as a bloom and put it on Him droning the Shiva mantra-Nama Shivaya. What fell on Lord was not the stone but rather a bloom.
Nayanar proceeded with his worship along these lines and had his nourishment at exactly that point. As he was in Sakya clothing, numerous felt that he was one against Lord Shiva yet Lord alone comprehended his dedication. One day, Sakkia Nayanar started to take his sustenance and all of a sudden understood that he had neglected to do the puja and desparately kept running for the puja doing it with stones. The stones utilized for the puja fell at the feet of Lord Shiva in Mount Kailash. He offered darshan to Nayanar with Mother Parvathi. As Sakkia Nayanar revered Lord Shiva here, the spot is known as Sakkottai"
