Overview
Perdoor is a village in the Udupi District of Karnataka .The village is situated in between Udupi and Hebri. Perdoor is about 20 Km from Udupi and 32 Km from Hebri .The village is most renowned for the ancient Temple Shree Anantha Padmanabha swamy.
About The Temple
The idol of Sri Anantha Padmanabha Swamy is 2 feet high. The deity holds the Shanku ( sacred conch) and the mighty Chakra is the hands .The temple has a stone inscription made in 1458, which calls the deity by the name Janardhana deva initially but later as Ananta deva. However, another inscription made in 1520, clearly mentions the lord as Sri Anantha Padmanabha .The vigraha (idol) of the god is in the standing position and is said to be have divine powers.
The temple consists of a separate Sanctum for Lord Shiva in the form of a Shivalinga or Rudralinga .There is a Ganapati idol on a pillar at Theertha mantapa. It is an age old tradition of this temple to offer prayers first to the Lord Ganapathi, only after which poojas for the Mola Moorthi Anantha Padbanabha Swamy is undertaken every day. The Temple was once surrounded by dense forest but is now developed as a popular Temple Town. An Arototsava katte exists in front of the Temple and a Nagabramha stana nearby. A Gramma devtha Mariyamma Temple is located nearby. A Kunjadakatte is also present, at which lord Sri Anantha Padmanabha utsavamurti is being worshipped during Rathotsava (car festival) period. Padma Sarovara with stone steps is situated on the northern side of the Temple, which is said to be the place of Goddess Lakshmi. Lord Padmanabha is said to like the Plantain fruit Kadhali very much. Hence devotees are seen offering the fruit during the special Kadaliseva to the lord. The Rathotsava or the Car Festival of Lord Sri Anantha Padmanabhaswamy is held during Kumbha Masa for a period of 5 days, which is being called the Boatikotsava.
Legend and Stories
The revered Sthala Purana states that the Temple has been built by a Brahmin named Krishnasharma who lived in the province of Kotikunja which was at that time ruled by Raja Shankara. The Temple belongs to the 6-7th century AD. The idol of Lord Shri Anantha Padmanabha Swamy is said to have been consecrated during that period .The Kaipheat of Dakshina Kannada District found by Col .Kalis Mekenji around 200 years back i.e. during the period of 1754-1827, mentions that a person named Sri Krishna Hebbar of Perdur Magane has consecrated the Temple idol. Later Raja Vijayappa Wadayar is said to have given the village of Banampalli as Umbali to the Temple.

Road
Perdur village has two bus stops called Melepete and Kelapete. Melepete is the main bus stop located opposite to the main entrance of the temple and kelapete bus stop is located on north gate of the temple. Udupi is the main city which is nearest to the temple and its bus stand is located at a distance of 20 Km from the temple
