The Anikkattilamma Kshetram is located at Anicadu in the state of Kerala and is dedicated to Goddess Shakti. This temple is also known as Mallappally Anikkattilamma Shiva Parvathy temple and is constructed around 4 kilometres away from Mallappally in the district of Pathanamthitta district. This temple has a very unique aspect as Adiparasakthi Sivan and kind Goddess Parvathi are in one Sreekovil which is of the rarest kind in the state of Kerala. In these idols, Agnimahakalan and Agniyekshi are symbolized both of them are of 4 feet height and are installed next to each other. God Shiva’s idol is demon-shaped and has a bow and an arrow in his arms. Goddess Parvathi holds a sword in one of her hands. It is known that thistemple was established around 1600 years ago during the times of the Edappally dynasty. It enjoys a serene and tranquil location by the banks of the Manimala River. The sub-deities of this temple include Bhadra, Nagaraja, Rekshas and Yekshiamma which are placed in the temple’s courtyard. The courtyard also has Kanikonna which is beautiful and flowery place. It provides flower offerings to the Gods of the temple all around the year. Just in close proximity of the temple is the Thalathil Bhagavathy temple which is customarily related to this temple. The main idols of this temple are Santhana Gopala Vishnu and Sreechakram with God Ganapathy, Sastha, Mraharekshas, Nagaraja, Nagayekshi, Bhuvaneswary etc. as the sub-deities. This temple is the habitat of the goddess who is known for her supreme powers. She is the ultimate preserver and the destroyer. Goddess takes care of her devotees just like a mother takes care of her children. Many women devotees come here and testify how the Goddess blessed them with a bountiful life. Various festivals are organized and celebrated in this temple with utter joy and devotion. On the day of Pooram in the Kumbham month, the Pongala Pooja is held. The annual festival is celebrated for a period of 8 days starting in the Kumbham month and concludes on the day of the Pooram star. The Pongala festival is quite famous and thousands of devotees from all around the state participate in the grand celebration. On the day of Pongala, the women devotees offer pongala to the Goddess in the earthen pots. The famous Pongala is a rice porridge which is boiled over and over again. On that day, the temple is totally crowded and the rush spreads out of the temple premises to the public roads as thousands of women wait to get the blessings of the great Goddess. The Pongala ground spreads to a radius of around 2 kilometres and literally it turns the whole of Pullukuthy and Kavanalkadavu into the holy grounds. Not only from Kerala but women from various other states also come here in a bid to seek blessings and riddance from suffering.
