The Aranya Sundareswarar Temple is located in Tiruvengadu and is dedicated to God Aranya Sundareswarar. This Shiva temple is near Poompuhaar and Tiruvenkaadu and is known as Keezhtirukkaattuppalli to distinguish it from Melaittirukkaattuppalli near Thanjavur. This is the 12th in the series of Tevara Stalangal on the northern banks of the river Kaveri in the Chola region of Tamil Nadu. The temple is constructed in such a way that one could hear the sea at the Dakshinamurthy shrine even if the sea was 6 kms away. There are 4 theerthams at the 4 corners sourrounding the temple and shrines to Shiva in the form of two Shiva Lingams referred to as Muniyeswarar and Bhramhesar. There are also shrines to Skanda, Bhairavar and Surya. Sambandar is said to come here after going to Tiruchaaikaadu at Poompuhaar.
