One of the ancient Hindu temples dedicated to the Sun God Surya is Arasavalli. Located near the Srikakulam town, Andhra Pradesh in India. Its original name Harshavalli means abode of joy. When Lord Devendra forced his entry for getting a darshan of Sri Rudrakoteswara Swamy varu, the dwarapalaka Nandi attempted to stop him as the Lord was with his consort. But he ignored the words of the Dwarapalaka Nandi and the Nandi kicked the intruder. Lord Indra fell down senseless and he was injured by the divine attendant. When he was unconscious Indra dream that once he built a temple for the Sun God, he would be relieved of his pain. He picked up a handful of earth thrice, at this holy place where he fell down and found a beautiful idol of the Sun God with his three consorts Usha, Chaya and Padmini.
