The Arulmigu Agatheeswarar Temple is located in Dharapuram and is dedicated to God Arulmigu Agatheeswarar. On the occasion of Goddess Parvathi's wedding, Brahma, Thirumal, Moppathu Mukkodi Devar were assembled at mount Meru. Due to this Meru's northern part sank downwards while the southern part became raised. To correct this God Shiva sent Agathiyar to Pothigai to correct the Earth's equilibrium. While on his way, he stayed at Dharapuram and sent his followers to Kasi to bring a Shiva Lingam. When they failed to return in time, Agathiyar formed a Linga on the banks of River Amaravathi and thus the God here came to be known as Agatheeswarar. When his disciples returned with the Linga from Kasi, it was established as Kasi Viswanathar on the right side of the temple. The Pandavas prayed here during their exile. This temple has the importance of Murthy, Theertha and Sthala.
