Overview
The Mathur Kovil is a little over 5 km from Karaikudi. It can be reached not long after passing Iluppaikudi. The presiding deity here is Lord Ainnootreesar and his consort Periya Nayaki. Seven Pirivugal - Uraiyur, Arurrlbakkur, Manalur, Mannur, Kannur, Karuppur & Kulathur. Intra- temple marriage within Mathur Kovil is possible, if sub-sects are different.
About The Temple
The Mathur Kovil is dedicated to Arulmigu Ainootreeswarar and his consort Arulmigu Periyanaayagi. Besides their idols, this Nagarathar temple also contains sculptures of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Vivekananda and Ramana Maharashi. The unique feature of this temple is the stone lions with freely rotating balls in their mouths. The towering Rajagopuram stands nearly 70 feet tall. It has seven Pirivus (sub-classifications) like Uraiyur, Arumbakkur, Manalur, Mannur, kannur,Karuppur and Kulathur. They inter-marry within these Pirivus in the Kovil and other Kovils as well. It lays 5kms away from Karaikudi.

Accessibility
Instead of Tirupattur (sivaganga) you can a get flight to Madurai Airport on regular basis. There are no regular trains from other major cities to Tirupattur(sivaganga). Nearest train station is Kallai. Tirupattur(sivaganga) is well connected to other major cities of the country via regular buses.
