Overview
The Bade Mathuradhish Mandir at Patanpol near Kota is dedicated to Bhagavan Sri Krishna.
About The Temple
The temple belongs to Shri Ballabhcharyaji. It is a haveli with the main entrance and a chowk. The sanctum Sanctorum is in a square shape. On a stone seat is installed the black stone idol of Shri Bade Mathureshji. In front of the Garbhagriha is a big chowk and there are verandahs. Rasoi is a special importance because bhog for the deity is prepared in the Rasoi. This temple is the Pratham Peeth (first seat) of Pushtimarg. The priest of the temple is by heredity as is prevalent in Ballabh Sampradaya.
About the Deity
The name of the deity is Shri Bade Mathureshji. He is worshiped in his Baalroop (childhood form). The childhood disports of Lord Krishna are enacted and they are very popular here.
History of the Temple
In 1795, the idol of Shri Mathureshji was brought to Kota. The chariot transporting this idol stopped infront of the haveli of the Rai Dwarkadassji, the Minister to the king of Kota. When the chariot did not move ahead despite all efforts made, Rai Dwarkadassji prayed to the Goswami Gopinathji that he presented his haveli for the deity to be enshrined. After this, the chariot moved and went into the haveli where the idol is enshrined.
