One of the important historical temple sites in Chennai is the Bairagi Mutt or Bairagi Madam. It is said to have been built by a saint from Lahore in Pakistan. The North Indian style mutt has a small shrine for Lord Venkateshwara and his consorts. Idols of Rama, Lakshman, Sita, Ganesha and Hanuman can be seen carved in the temple wall.
