It is believed that Bhika Patil, a Kunbi, while digging the plinth for his cattle shed, found the idol of Balaji and constructed this temple and appointed Devajipant Corghade, a priest, to take care of the temple. While performing the necessary austerities, the priest prayed to God, asking Him to promote him to a higher status in society. After rising to the desired status, with the consent of Janoji Bhosle, he constructed the temple that is now seen. A courtyard wall flanked by four bastions in four corners encircles the temple. Two tiger carvings are present at the entrance and the gate opens to a fine garden. The Garudastambha, renovated by Sadasiv Bhatji Ghode, stands beyond the garden. The Nrtyasala or dancing hall is located after the Garudastambha, wherein one can find wooden idols of Garuda, Maruti, Dvarpalas and so on and faded paintings depicting Gajendra moksa, Krsnalila, Bakasurmardana, Maricavadha and so on. The stone sabhamandap and a sanctuary crowned by a 20 ft gold plated sikhar is situated after the Nrtyasala. Devaitpant Corghade, on Sravana Vadya (Saka 1694, 1772 AD) reinstalled the 4-handed idol of the God. The sun’s rays fall on the idol every morning through an air hole in the east. Idols of Laksmi, Garuda, Maruti and so on are also present at the temple.
