The Balesvara Siva Temple is a Shiva Temple located in village of Buhan in the Puri District of Orissa. The temple is 3km from the Puri-Konark Marine Drive Road, 16km South of Puri and 26km West of Konark.
The presiding deity is a Shivalinga with a circular Yonipitha situated 2.10 Meters blow the door jambs.
Based on Architectural features, the building materials used and the detached sculptures the temple is dated back to the 10th century (evidenced by The Pabhaga and Bada Portion). Due to the extensive renovation work there is minimal decoration present in the temple. But an Image of Indra seated on an elephant within a niche and an image of Isana over a bull grace the southern and northern walls respectively.
A unique detached sculpture of a couple seated on a Lotus pedestal stands in the front porch. With the five fold horizontal divisions of the bada the temple is panchahgabada in elevation and Pancha Ratha on plan. The temple is constructed with light grey sandstone and is built on a Laterite foundation.
The temple is quite auspicious during Sivaratri, Sankranti, Kartikapurnima and Somabara.
Devotees flock to the temple to pray for salvation, wealth and knowledge. The temple is powerful and praying here is known to cure diseases and success in vehicle purchases.
