Overview
Bata Mangala Temple is dedicated to the Hindu Goddess Mangala. The temple is located 7 km from the Holy town of Puri in the state of Orissa, India. The temple is visited by devotees on the way to the nearby Jagannath Temple.
About The Temple
Although Puri is a famous centre of Vaisnavism, it is also recognized as a Shakti pitha. Several Shakta temples are located inside and outside of Lord Jagannath temple. There is a Shakta temple dedicated to Goddess Mangala known as Bata Mangala Temple. This temple is located at a distance of 3 kilometres from Atharanala on the road leading from Puri to Bhubaneswar, on State Highway No.8. Since Goddess Mangala is enshrined on the way to Shreekhetra, she is known as Bata Mangala. She is believed to guide the pilgrims to Puri. The pilgrims offer puja with all respects at Bata Mangala temple while entering and leaving Puri for their safe and happy journey.
About The Deity
The presiding deity is Goddess Mangala. The idol is very beautiful and has two hands and three eyes. She is sitting in a Padmasana posture with smiling face. The two hands are holding pasa and ankusa. She is worshipped in the mantra of Durga.
