Kandiyur, Brahmasirakanteeswarar sanctuary is situated in Kandiyur, Thanjavur locale, Tamil Nadu state, India. The principle God here is Brahmasirakanteeswarar and Amman (Thayar) is Mangalambikai. This sanctuary is a 274 Sivalayam Koil.
About the Temple
Close to the entryway protectors (dwaarapaalar), is the picture of Sage Saathaathaapar, and the sanctum of Kaalathinaathar, who uncovered Himself to Sage Saathaathaapar, Sapthasthaana Lingams and Panchabhuta Lingams. In the Navagrahas' sanctum the Sungod is seen with his two companions. The Prime Deity a Swayambu murthi, is on a marginally high pedestal. The statues of Brahman and Saraswathi are close to the sanctum of the Lord. The statue of situated Brahman looks exquisite showing up with collapsed hands in supplication holding blossom and rosary. About the Deity
The directing god is vishnu . He is called Brahmasirakanteeswarar . His consort is known as Mangalambikai. is Ambal stands south-bound with four arms and with "abhayavaratham" (asylum sign). Inside is the sanctum of Vinayagar, Subrahmanya with Valli-Deivanai, Mahalakshmi, Nataraja, Vishnu-Durgai, Bhairavar, numerous sorts of Vinayagar and Ardhanaareeswarar in the sitting stance. Chandeswarar is in discrete sanctuary. Brahman, Lingodhbavar, Dakshinamaurthi, and Bhikshaadanar show up as koshta murthis.
Legend and Stories
Since one head, out of the five heads of Brahman was culled this spot came to be known as "Kandanapuram" or 'Kandiyur'. The Lord brought the Bael Tree from Mount Kailas for Sage Saathaathaapar; so this blessed spot is likewise called " Aadi Vilvaaranyam". Sage Saathaathaapar used to go to Kaalahasti on the "pradosham" day to have darshan of the Lord. Once when he came to Kandiyur, he couldn't go to Kalahasti in time. The legend is that the Lord graced him with the Kalahasti darshan at Kandiyur itself. This sacrosanct site is likewise the spot to pacify the Brahmahathi curse.
