Chakulathukavu Bhagavathi Temple

Overview


The deity of Goddess Shakti is worshipped at the holy Chakkulathukavu Bhagavathy Temple which is located at Neerattupuram in Kerala. The town of Neerattupuram is almost 20kms away from Ambalapuzha. This temple is one of the oldest temples of India as it is almost 3000 years old. The rivers of Manimala and Pamba flow near the temple.


Festivals


The festival of Pongal is celebrated in the temple during the Vrischikam month observed in the month of November or December. Thousands of female devotees visit this temple during this festival and gather around it one week prior to the celebration. The queue extends to the length of 20kms while the offering of Pongala is taking place. The devotees offer coconut, rice and jaggery with earthen pots to the Goddess. The head priest then lights up a fire inside the temple which is used to light up other lamps in the temple.

The festival of Panthrandu Noyampu is also celebrated in the temple with great joy. The devotees keep a fast and pray in front of the Goddess to get her eternal blessings. The fasting period begins from the first day of Dhanu, the Malayalam month till the twelfth day.

The Cochin International Airport is nearest to the temple.


Railways

The Thiruvalla Railway Station is nearest to the temple as it is only 9kms away.


Road

Frequent bus service is available to reach the temple. The devotees can take the Kerala State RTC bus from Thiruvalla to reach the temple.

Yaa Devi Sarva Bhooteshu Shakthi Roopena Samsthita Namastasyai Namastasyai Namastasyai Namo Namaha

Meaning -Salutations to the Goddess who resides as Shakti in all beings.

Timings

The temple is open from 4.30am to 1pm in the morning and from 4.30pm to 8pm in the evening.
