Overview
Goddess Bhadrakali is found at the rear of the present main shrine. It was first installed by Parashurama.As goddess was so fierce even birds could not fly in front of the idol. The temple is famous for Sathyam chollal(taking an oath in front of Bhadrakaali). Thantri belongs to Kaattumaatam illam and saanthikkaars hail from two Thaavazhis of Marangatt illam
Significance
Those who took a false oath had to face severe consequences like vomiting blood or suffering from madness. In ancient times, there was a custom of giving Pattumvalayum to distinguished Achaaryas at the front of the shrine of Perumthrukkovilappan.
Festivals
POOROLSAVAM commences eight days before pooram in Meenam. On every day of the festival the thitambs are taken in procession to theAmma-paramb. The belief is that the Goddesses visit their mother. The persons who take the thitambs of both the Goddesses dance for about two hours and return to the temple. The other important days which are observed are Navaraathri,Tuesdays and Fridays.
