Overview
Biratpur village under Sonebarsa block of Saharsa district is famous for an ancient temple of Goddess Chandi. This village is associated with King Birat of the Mahabharat age. It is said that the five pandavas with their wife Draupadi spent the period of agaytvas here. It is one of the important places in 51 Shakti peeth. Here it is also called Maa Sati's forehead was cut down. Therefore it is most viewable in 51 shakti peeths.
About The Temple
Historically the temple is 300 years old. It was made by Pran Devi of King Pran Singh of Jalseema. Temple of Katyaini at Dhamhara ghat and Tarasthan temple Mahisiare at equal distance from this place. There are seven ponds around this temple. It is said that they were dug by demon that tried to marry goddess chandi Chinmastika but could not do so because the ponds could not be completely dug before the sun rise in the morning.
Festivity
Tuesday is the festive day of the Bairagan worship is done by cutting Patha(goat) Previously it was done by killing Para(small baisan) Sweets and flowers are also used in worship of the deity So this worship is mixed of mantric and tantrik. Pure tantrik worship is done during Navratra.

The nearest international airport is in Siliguri. It is the Bagdogra Airport. There is no railway station near Biratpur, less than 10 km. Saharsa, Madhepura are the nearby by towns to Biratpur with good connectivity by road to Biratpur.
