Locally referred to as Chaumu, the Shiva at this temple is believed to be the protector of the animals. Devotees offer bells and milk to the deity and also take a holy dip at the confluence of the Kali and Sarayu Rivers. The journey of Chaumu Jaat, wherein devotees undertake a yatra from the village of Sail situated about 5 km from this temple, shows the region's culture.
