At Theyoor in the Haveli Taluka of Pune district in Maharashtra is the Ashtavinayak temple dedicated to Chintamani Vinayak. The village is located along the river Mulamutha and the village is also known as Kadambanagar where a great battle was fought between Ganesha and Ganraja. The story goes that King Abhjit & queen Gunavati did penance for several years on the advice of sage Vaishampayan & begot a son named Ganaraja. Ganaraja was as furious as he was brave & valorous. Once after his hunting expedition he came to Kapila Rishi's Ashram to take rest.During lunch, he saw the sage feeding the army with food that he got from a jewel called Chintamani which was given to him Lord Indra, the king of Gods. Ganaraja was impressed with the jewel and wanted it for himself. When the sage refused, he took it away by force. Dissappointed, the sage consulted Goddess durga who asked him to worship Lord Ganesha and ask for the jewel as a boon. A fierce battle ensued between Lord Ganesha & Ganaraja at the end of which Lord Ganesha killed Ganaraja.King Abhjit returned the Chintamani to sage Kapila. But by then Kapilmuni had lost all desire to possess the Chintamani ratna and he offered it Lord Ganesh. He tied the Chintamani Ratna around Lord Ganesh's neck and so he came to be known as the Chintamani Vinayak.Since all of this occurred under a Kadamba tree, Theyoor was also known as Kadambanagar
