Overview
Dhumpamon Vadakkumnathan Temple is an ancient temple near Pandalam in Kerala, India. This temple has two sanctums. Both are round. It is an age old temple.
About The Temple
The first Sanctum of this temple is dedicated to a deity named as Vadakkumnathan. It is believed that the Lord installed in this Sanctum is a form of Lord Shiva. Few others believe that the deity is a representation of Muruga, i.e. Lord Kartikeya, while others opine that it is a form of Lord Vishnu. However, the deity resembles Sri Buddha.
The people believe that the deity in the second Sanctum (known as Thekkumnathan) is Balamurugan. The Sanctum has been adorned with magnificent murals that augment its beauty.
Legends and Stories
The evolution of Dhumpamon Shree Vadakkumnathan temple is closely related to the evolution of other great temples in Kerala. Dhumpamon Sree Vadkkumnatha temple might also have a close relation to the Buddhist tradition.
During late 1300 AD to early 1700 AD the Dhumpamon Sree Vadakkumnathan temple also lost it glory. It might have lost Vilakkumaadam, Sheevelippura, and Dwaja-Sthamba (Kodimaram).
